Cody,
This article is a must read for artists and galleries alike.
My personal experience as a gallery owner is that most, (not all) artists don't get the point of WORKING nad SUPPORTING a gallery that represents them.
I presently represent 40 artists and have the ability to show a full body of work by each one, displayed as their art should be. Nothing I acccept into the gallery is in a closet or storage where it can't be seen.
The "real estate" of my walls is too expensive to offer artwork that is not the best. Back linking is very important. It produces more traffic to both artist and gallery. I strongly agree that the artists site should link directly to the gallery's site. My job is to do everything in my power to sell, and with the assistance of my artists directing clients to my gallery, I do just that.
There is no limit to the constant promoting of the artwork offered at the Bucks County Gallery. A relationship between artist and gallery MUST BE A TWO WAY STREET as you suggest.
Without cooperation of both parties, there is not much point in me representing an artist.
Your article is a must read. I will post it on my Facebook pages in hopes of many more artists and galleries reading it.
P.S. regarding "in season" - snow and fall scenes sell well for me any season.
