Grand Canyon Plein Air
Hello to all my friends, family and followers. I hope you are having a
great summer.
It's been a while since my last post. I've been traveling, but before I
talk about that here's the latest news about the Grand Canyon Plein Air
event which begins on Friday.
First of all I am honored to have my Studio painting featured on the
official digital postcard for the event, and that's me painting on the
GCC landing page for the event as well. This page also has the online
catalog of all the participating artists studio works.

The Celebration of Art has been a great event for me these past 12
years.
I'm one of three artists who has been invited every year since the
beginning. I won the event in 2010, got the Artists Choice Award in
2015, and I've consistently been a top 5 seller, and a couple years ago
I was the second highest selling artist. I have met and made friends
with many great collectors, art appreciators and fellow artists. It's
been a privilege and this year is bittersweet as it will likely be my
last time participating, at least for a year or two. (more on that
later). So, if you can make it, I hope to see you there. Here's my
studio painting below.

Speaking of the Canyon, one of the folks who was on my last river trip
in May, Jim A, produced a nice little book after our trip 'Dedicated to
Clair Quist, Master boatman extraordinaire'. Many of the artist works
from that last trip (Clair's last commercial trip) are featured in the
book, including several of my works. Thank you Jim, and thank you Clair.

In other news, I've been thinking about scarcity and value lately. One
thing that can (sometimes) make an artists work more valuable is when
the artist begins to slow production or taper off a series. This
creates scarcity, and increases the supply/demand ratio in favor of the
value of existing works.
As you know, I closed my Studio/Gallery earlier this year so that I
could pursue a lifelong dream of more travel. Without my studio, or
even a stable place to paint at the moment, my overall production has
dropped quite a bit. Don't worry I plan to create a new working space
in the coming year, a new studio of some sort. But it likely wont be a
public retail space. This time I want the privacy and time to explore
and expand my work in new ways.
A change of scenery is also on the horizon. I dearly love the American
Southwest, and I'll probably always visit and paint from the vast
library of photos I've taken over the last 25 years living here.
However I'm interested in new influences and different inspirations
while I still have the time, freedom and capability.
I just returned from a six week exploration of Portugal. specifically I
visited the Algarve region (Lagos) in the south, Lisbon in the center
and Porto in the north. If you would like to see more of those photos
and thoughts, scroll down my Facebook page here > Cody FB
Below are just a few shots from Portugal.

I'm not sure what the coming year holds, or where I'll land, or for how
long. But I have faith that traveling, and being influenced by other
artists I have not yet met, will take my art in new and exciting
directions.
My personal and artistic growth have always been paramount, often at
the expense of many other areas of my life. My lust for life is still
burning bright, and now is my time to explore more of what the world
has to offer...Stay tuned, and thanks for following along.
Lastly, I will likely be in Arizona for the next few months (after that
who knows). While I'm semi planted, if any of you would like to discuss
a commission, now is the time! Once I begin more international travel,
shipping may become more of an issue. Just sayin' :-)
Cheers ~ Cody
