I hope you are enjoying a wonderful spring so far.
April has been a most incredible month for me, one I'll never forget. I've been privileged to camp in and explore some of the most beautiful and remote parts of Southern Utah.
I've seen some really amazing and bizarre landscapes, Indian Ruins, giant pictographs, uranium mines, dead cars in the middle of nowhere, ravens having sex at my doorstep (at first I thought one was about to kill the other) and rode some of the most fun and challenging mountain bike trails I've done yet.
One thing I had kind of forgotten about camping full time (it has been 25 years since I last did this) is that your daily experience is much more affected by the weather than when you live in a normal home.
I camped in a beautiful snowstorm near Torrey Utah, had freezing rain near Goblin Valley, and wind...the wind has been something during April. One night near Muley point, I thought the wind was going to push my camper into the canyon below. I actually got up at midnight and pulled away from the edge I was camped as close to a sandstone wall as I could get. I spent the rest of the night hoping the wind would not tear something off the roof. The wind has been a constant, and kept me from painting as much as I would like, but it did not prevent me from exploring and getting some great photos to paint from later.
I may have to rent some studio space this summer just to work on all the new ideas I have for larger paintings!
