Working in series doesn't have to mean the same scene, it can be as simple as a theme, in this case a color - Cobalt Blue.
Both these scenes I set up at home, lit them with a single spot light and painted them largely with the palette knife. I was intrigued by the idea of depicting transparency with thicker paint than I might normally.
Using mostly knife and very little brush work is the opposite of my more usual practice. I think these type of exercises that force you to step outside of your comfort zone are great for growth.
After warming up with the two above, I did the one below with a different idea entirely, (mostly grays and closer values overall), but I wouldn't have thought of it if I hadn't done the blue ones first.
