Grand Canyon and Jerome

Hot off the Press - I am the Arizona Artist of the Day today, Sept 5, 2017!
Last month I said "Change often leads to Growth"
The experiments continue.
Here's two more of my latest 'Ghost Town Impressions Series'. In the top one, the four story building is the Sullivan Apartments, which I'm told turns 100 this year! Next to it is currently Vaqueros Mexican food. Though I've painted similar views of it over the years, I felt it deserved a fresh approach, so I toned the canvas a grayish purple, and created a somewhat grainy texture over that. I like the effect. 'Sullivan Turns 100' - 18"x 24". $2000.
Below that on the left is a view just a block down the street from my Studio, I call this one "Hull Avenue Hangover' - 36"x 48" - $5000.
I started with an old painting from some years ago, and painted over it with a grayish blue layer, then I did this  painting using a lot of palette knife. Due to the texture of the older painting underneath, this one has a really interesting surface quality about it. I let a lot of the blue/gray show through also. On the left there is some faintly visible lettering from past businesses over the years, and I took great care to get that right.
This is another example of experimentation leading to insights, which lead to new and exciting results. The Hull Ave. experiment inspired Sullivan, which was done in a similar manner, except on a new canvas. I like them both very much.
Grand Canyon
The river scene on the right, is my studio piece for this year's Grand Canyon Plein Air Event. I'll be leaving for that event tomorrow. I'm one of only three artists who have been at this event every single year since the beginning. I won it in 2010, got Artist's Choice Award in 2015, have been a top seller most years and last year (2016) I was the number 2 selling artist.
It's been a good event for me, and I hope you'll come and see it if you're in the area. It will hang through the end of the year at the famous Kolb Studio on the south rim of the Grand Canyon.
Workshops
October 18-20 - Plein Air to Studio - $325
Expand your creative language with this fun and informative three day workshop. we will have one day of plein air painting in Jerome, one day of plein air painting in Sedona, and on the final day we will head into the studio to enlarge one of our plein air studies.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about the different thought process between the plein air and studio mindset.
There are still  few spots left, so if you're considering painting one of the most beautiful areas of the country, now is the time, come join us.
More information about the workshop, and registration can be found here.

Videos
For those of you who can't come to the workshop, I have started a videos page. So far I have one plein air video of me painting along Oak Creek in Sedona, and one studio video about painting old trucks from a photo. I'm keeping these very affordable at just $35 each. There are also some FREE videos, and my interview with the Masters Secrets. Visit my Videos Page here.
