I just returned from three weeks in Colorado. I had a great time painting and mountain biking with friends. As I mentioned last month, I also did three tent shows while there. Some of you have been asking how it went, so here's my report.
The first event was near Vail, (Edwards) and the weather for the first two days was awful. Rain and wind, in fact on Saturday there was a gust of wind that lifted one of my paintings off the wall and dropped it on the asphalt, damaging the frame. I got off easy, though. Two other vendors whose tents weren't properly weighted down were lifted off the ground and smashed all over the place. Those people lost pretty much everything and just packed up their damaged goods and left. Sunday the sun came out and I sold enough to put me in the black.
Next up was Salida, and the weather was a bit warm but no complaints after Vail. The crowds just weren't buying much, though. Fellow vendors who have done the show in past years said it was down this year, for no particular reason anyone could figure out. Again I did just a little better than my expenses, which was more than a lot of people did.
The final event was Longmont. This show was a complete disaster for me. On the way, I locked my keys in my camper and had to get a locksmith at 11 pm. I arrived the next day and got set up in the beautiful Park and waited for the crowds. Unfortunately I did not realize that it was a first annual event. Even worse was the fact that the same weekend there was a huge car show, people lined the main streets with lawn chairs and coolers for this, and almost no one came to the park.
These shows were a learning experience, however, and I hope to do better next summer. I did have some fun and met some great folks.
I would like to thank everyone who attended these shows, and those who signed up for my newsletter. Welcome! By providing an email address, these folks were entered into a raffle for one of my metal prints. Here are the winners:
Vail - Debbie B. of Avon.
Salida - Suzi T. of Salida.
Longmont - Eric M. of Lyons. Your prints have been shipped.
I did manage to get some painting done while in Colorado, to see more of these works visit my
website.
It's August and hot in Arizona, but fall is just around the corner. I'll be once again participating in the Celebration of Art at the Grand Canyon next month. Quick draw and auction for the show is Saturday Sept. 19, 9 am - 1 pm. For those of you who can't make it opening weekend, the show will be up until Jan. 18.
Finally, I have an ongoing request. As a way of showing my appreciation to all of you who have collected my paintings over the years, I would like to create a 'Collectors Page' on my website.
Any of you who wish to be shown there, please email be a photo, or photos, of you standing next to your Cody painting/s. I'll include this image along with your first name/s and town. This would be a great resource for Sara and I to put faces to names, many of you I've met only once or twice, and often Sara never gets to meet you in person. Please email photos to
[email protected] and thanks for you help.
Koya Klips
All our friends know that Sara and I are crazy about little Koya. Sara recently had a pendant made featuring this photo of our sweet girl as a pup. So photogenic even then. She's also quite a little ham, trying to entice her boyfriend to play in the second photo. Looks and personality, lucky us.
