Surgery and new work
Hi all, hope this note finds you well.
My journey continues as I am currently recuperating from shoulder
surgery.
A year ago I landed wrong going over a jump on my mountain bike and
suffered a Grade 5 AC Joint separation. The collar bone was sticking up
under the skin and has been for the last year as I did all the physical
therapy possible, trying to avoid the knife.
On June 2 the surgeons took a donor tendon from my knee, and used it to
repair the shoulder, tying the collarbone back down where it belongs.
It was just over a week ago, I'm still sore but improving daily and
should be able to start painting again soon. The Gym and the Bike will
have to wait a bit longer, tendons take time to heal, and you can't do
active recovery like you can with muscles.
As a lifelong athlete, avoiding strenuous exercise is challenging for
my brain, but I want a great recovery so I'm taking it easy until the
doc says ok, and then a gradual return to strength again.
I'm using the extra time to work on several things, mostly planning as
I'm still gimpy, but I did manage to put the finishing touches on 'Blue
Rain' below. It was almost finished before the surgery, and yesterday I
was able to stand steady enough to apply the final touches.

Reach out if this one speaks to you.
Below is one I showed previously as a work in progress. My local framer
just delivered it. Let me know what you think, it's a simple frame that
adds weight and mass to the painting, but I'm curious if you like it.

Before I go - a thank you.
Most of you have been on this list for a while now, and I don't take
that for granted. As a small gesture, I'm attaching something I put
together for collectors: The Confident Collector's Guide.
It walks through how to look at original work, what to ask before you
buy, how to care for oil paintings, and how to know when something is
actually worth owning. Most of you probably don't need it - you already
know how to trust your eye. But if you know someone who's curious about
collecting and doesn't know where to start, pass it along.

That's all for now. Back in the studio as soon as the shoulder lets me.
