Hello Portugal Just a quick update for those interested in my recent move to Europe. In late February I flew from Arizona to Porto. The flights themselves were calm, though long, but unfortunately two legs of the journey were delayed by a total of 24 hours. Ah the joys of travel. Anyway I made it with my 5 duffel bags and backpack. The first night I had only an air mattress and a borrowed blanket. I slept in my clothes as there's no heating or cooling in my unfurnished apartment. Things have improved in the last two weeks, I now have a real mattress, a warm blanket, some other furniture and a couple of space heaters. I've managed to find food and most of the things I need for daily life. I also bought a new easel and a few basic art supplies. I am reminded however the we are really spoiled for choice in the US, my choices here are limited by comparison, but adequate. It was raining in Porto the day I painted it, so I was channeling warm summer in the Algarve. It just felt good to paint after a couple weeks of just learning how to get by day to day. Speaking of which, if you know me well enough to have had my US phone number, send me an email and I'll give you my new one. We can chat and talk on Whatsapp for free. Alternatively you can always reach out to me on Facebook, though I don't check in every day. I'm also in a different time zone now, so just be patient and I'll respond in a day or two. My email remains the same, and/or you can use the contact page on my website. I've added a 'Europe' gallery to the paintings pages. Only one on there so far, but stay tuned as I add more in the months to come. I'm still working on health insurance here, and I have my residency appointment in June, to get my residence permit which is renewable every two years. It isn't all business though. I did a really cool walking tour of Porto last Sunday, covering little known areas and history of the city. I also went to a 'Gin joint" called Scoundrels where you can create your own gin using an array of ingredients. I didn't try that but it looks interesting. The last photo of 'Tulip Park' as the locals call it, is just a couple of blocks from my apartment. A great place to relax, have lunch or just people watch. That's it for now, next month I should have some new paintings to show you.
