2022
Happy New Year!!!
Each year at this time I try to think about my plan for the coming
year, where I would like to be at this time next year, and how I might
go about getting there. I also take note of where I've been on this
remarkable journey called life.
My future for the next couple of years at least, will hopefully be
spent primarily in Portugal. The hassles and bureaucracy of applying
for a visa have been a challenge for sure. Dragging out my departure is
bittersweet, and yet people keep reaching out unexpectedly, and helping
me along with house and pet sitting offers. So I'm trying to look at
this as a positive. A unique time in my life where I am gratefully
accepting the kindness of others. Patronage too. I continue to get the
odd commission even as a nomad.
This past year has been the most brilliant, and lonely one is recent
memory. I believe it was necessary. I needed the time alone to
re-connect with nature and myself. While somewhat uncertain, it has
also been exciting, revealing, and in many ways very rewarding.
While my desire to run a gallery may have past, my love of painting and
exploration has been reinvigorated.
This is the time for me to create something entirely new.
Once in Portugal, perhaps I'll buy or rent a little warehouse space and
finally open 'Dizzy Lizard Studio'. A place where I could create in
peace half the time, and occasionally sponsor events that support local
artists and craftsmen, dancers, theatre practices, pet adoptions, yoga
retreats, small music events, film shorts, who knows what.
And of course...really cool parties for my friends.
Or maybe I'll just create a little private studio space to give me time
to figure out how to paint Europe, and travel...stay tuned.
New Years Day 2022
New Years Day 2022. I was lucky enough to be able to visit with some of
my family for the holidays, unlike last year. I hope you and yours were
able to visit in person this year also.

Painting continues to help me maintain a sense of balance, along with
meditation. Here's a little 9"x 12" I did as a demo for a student. I
wanted to demonstrate the dynamic tension between thick and thin paint,
and have some fun with the palette knife.

And here is a little 9"x 12" I did while house sitting in Sedona, it
was the view from the back yard. I took a few liberties with the
foreground trees of course. 'Sedona Study' - Available.

Currently I am still waiting on two pieces of final paperwork for my
Visa application. Once I have that I'll be taking a quick trip to San
Francisco to deliver documents to the Visa Application Center there.
After that it's another month or more of waiting for approval.
Meanwhile I have rented an apartment in Porto, but probably won't be
able to use it until March. Fingers crossed.
I hope the new year brings us all health and prosperity, my best to you
and yours in 2022!
Cheers ~ Cody
